The smartphone is being marketed as "Desh ka Smartphone".

Xiaomi has finally launched it's next entry-level smartphone and also it's most affordable smartphone in India called the Redmi 5A. The Redmi 5A variant launched in India has largely same specs as the one launched in China, however, the company has introduced some India-centric customisations.

We strongly believe that the best of technology should be made accessible to as many people as possible, because technology can improve lives.

Going by the sales figures of the Redmi 4A, Xiaomi should have no issues hitting the five million mark in a few quarters. The Redmi 5A has a metallic matte finish on the back that's smooth to the touch and because the rear seamlessly wraps around its front, the phone feels all the more comfortable in the hands.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch HD IPS display with the resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

Like the Redmi 4A, the Redmi 5A is powered by the quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset. The smartphone is available in two variants - 16GB storage with 2GB of RAM, and 32GB storage with 3GB of RAM. Also, Redmi 5A and 4A come with microSD card expansion up to 128GB. Xiaomi has given users the option to expand storage up to 256 GB using an external microSD card via a dedicated microSD card slot.

The Redmi 5A ships with same core camera hardware as the Redmi 4A. 5A comes with a 5 MP camera module with f/2.2 aperture on the front of the device for selfies. The Redmi 4A also has a 5MP selfie camera, but the aperture size is different at f/2.2. Xiaomi Redmi 5A India customisations The company has made some India-based customisations in the Redmi 5A. However, what's new here is the operating system - it runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat-based MIUI 9, which is the latest version of Xiaomi's proprietary operating system. Xiaomi says the MIUI 9 offers explosively fast launch times along with new features such as Smart Assistant and Universal Search. However, the first 5 million consumers will get a Rs. 1,000 price cut. However, the 3GB RAM variant of the Redmi 5A will still retail for Rs 6,999. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A annihilates the competition (at least on paper) like the Samsung Galaxy J1 Ace or the Micromax Canvas Spark 4G.
