Waze updated with motorcycle routing, voice commands, and HOV route support

Waze knows not all routes are equal when you're driving a motorcycle, which is why it now offers a motorcycle vehicle type.

In addition to the real-time road updates and alerts, Wazers riding in motorcycle mode will be directed on routes optimized for motorcyclists based on where fellow Wazers-on-wheels are riding and the more you ride in the motorcycle setting, the smarter the routing will become.

Meanwhile, the new OK Waze feature lets you get directions, preview the route ahead, report a traffic jam, and add a pit stop, all with the sound of your voice. To use motorcycle mode in Waze, go to Settings Vehicle Type Motorcycles.

"Not only is it convenient, it's safer, allowing you to stay focused on the road ahead", Waze wrote.

"Whether you're riding with one passenger or more; in a hybrid, electric, or clean-fuel vehicle; with a special pass; or a combination of all of the above, Waze will determine your optimal route".

If you've never ridden a motorcycle in your life, there's still plenty in this update for you.

Finally, Waze now has the ability to listen for commands once its voice activation features are triggered by the wake words "OK Waze", which you can enable under the "Sound & Voice" and "Talk to Waze" section of the Waze app. Users in the US, UK and Canada will be able to take advantage of this capability.

With this addition, Waze will be able to provide additional navigational options and arrival times based on high-occupancy-vehicle (HOV), or better known as carpooling lanes. If you're driving a fuel-efficient auto, go to Settings, tap Navigation, and select Vehicle Type.

For example, those riding with a full carpool crew should go to Settings Navigation Add Toll/ HOV pass, and then choose from the list of available passes for your area. If you're using a fuel-efficient vehicle, on the other hand, you only need to change your vehicle type in the Navigation sub-menu.

Do you prefer rolling on two wheels instead of four? The feature is available for English-speaking users in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, South Africa, Ireland, and New Zealand.

Waze supports carpool lanes in 21 US states and Washington, D.C.as well as Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, Canada.
