Jordanian king warns U.S. against moving embassy to Jerusalem

U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence speaks as he attends the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the UN vote calling for "the establishment of a Jewish State in the Land of Israel", at Queens Museum on November 28, 2017 in NY.

Trump pledged repeatedly during his campaign to move the USA embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

US President Donald Trump is "actively considering when and how" to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, his vice president said Tuesday, evoking a campaign promise that the administration had sidelined.

He said the UN had "too often" become "a forum for invective in the form of anti-Semitism and hatred" but vowed "the days of Israel-bashing at the United Nations are over".

On Wednesday, Hadashot television news reported that in Israel, "there is a very high expectation" that Trump will declare that he "formally recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and instructing his team to actively prepare to move the embassy".

"I bring the congratulations and support of a champion of Israel, President Donald Trump", said Pence, who received a standing ovation.

In 1995, Congress passed a law making it U.S. policy to move the embassy to Jerusalem.

Trump in June backed off a campaign pledge on the embassy move as his Mideast envoy sought to reinvigorate peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

But the law contains a clause that has allowed each president since to issue and renew a six-month waiver on carrying out the move.

"America stands with Israel because her cause is our cause, her values are our values and her fight is our fight".

According to the estimated motive for the decision now, sources have said that the President does not want to wait for a formal political plan of action to take shape because he does not want to have to again sign a renunciation of the plan to move the embassy. Pence also spoke of the support that the US has shown Israel and stated that the negative treatment that Israel has seen at the hands of the United Nations ended with the apointment of USA ambassador Nikki Haley to the U.N.

The vice president added that the Trump administration is also committed to ending the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.

"Under President Trump, the USA will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons", he said.

"We have nothing to announce", said press secretary Sarah Sanders.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon and World Jewish Congress President Ron Lauder also spoke at the event, which was organized by the Israeli mission to the UN.

Pence also said that Trump and his team were working on a peace deal with the Palestinians that "will never compromise the safety and security of the Jewish State of Israel". In 1947, the Jewish people realized the impossible.
