Also, it appears that only those using Chromebooks with display sizes upwards of 10.1 inches will actually be able to edit files on these apps.

These apps are the Android version of Office, which are fairly full-featured, though those who use desktop versions might have a bit of adjusting to do. Although there's been no official announcement, research by Chrome Unboxed suggests the wait is now over for Chromebook users wanting to use Office.

According to Chrome Unboxed, Microsoft's Office apps for Android have been available in the Google Play Store for some Chromebooks for over a year.

Now though, any Chromebook or other Chrome OS device with Play Store-support will be able to download Microsoft Office for Android which could help more businesses get behind Google's low-cost full laptop alternatives. At the moment, not all Chromebooks can access the Google Play Store, which essentially means that some users of these gadgets are still unable to enjoy the new Microsoft apps. Microsoft has been working to make the Android version available to all Chrome OS users, and it appears they have succeeded.

Over the a year ago, "Office apps would randomly show up on one device without being available on most others", Chrome Unboxed said. Also, it was frustrating for some Chromebook users as sometimes the apps would show up, but soon disappear without warning, notes Android Authority.

Microsoft Office support for Chromebooks has until now been spotty at best.

However, there is a small requirement for Chromebooks that feature screens larger than 10.1-inch.

This is major news for productivity users who had previously been interested in Chrome OS, but could never buy a Chromebook because of lack of Office support.
