In his fresh plea, advocate Manohar Lal Sharma, on Thursday, sought a direction to stay the release overseas of the controversial Hindi film which had aroused anger against its portrayal of the legendary medieval era queen and the practice of jauhar (immolation).

His Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath had held the movie director responsible for hurting sentiments of Rajput community, while Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje government had sought edits in the film to remove objectionable sequences. "We believe in freedom of speech & expression but any foul play with our great culture is not tolerated", Rupani tweeted.

Amu also vowed not to allow the release of the movie and warned movie theaters to avoid playing the movie or risk being torched.

The registered charity, which defines its aim as instilling the cultural values of the Rajput people in the United Kingdom, said it has written to the BBFC to revoke its certification for the film to prevent its release in Britain.

The film has been riddled by controversy for a long time and the makers have pushed the release of the film to next year.

According to the current reports, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has made an insurance of 140 crores for the film Padmavati and if the film could not be able to release or faces any loss for the screens of the film, then Bhansali will get the recovery amount of 80 crores. Despite the makers refuting these claims, the film has been banned in two states with others demanding cuts in the film.

Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming directorial "Padmavati" has been facing a lot of backlash from several groups in the country. It is mired in controversy in India as Hindu groups backed by the BJP are up in arms against alleged "distortion of historical facts".

The release of the film, which was earlier slated for December 1, has been deferred as the filmmakers are yet to secure a censor certificate. In the summary of the film, it says, "Padmavati is a Hindi language epic drama in which a Sultan leads an invasion to capture a Rajput queen".

Thereafter, members of Shri Rajput Karni Sena once again destroyed the sets of the film in Maharashtra.

Bollywood is in chaos after death threats to a female star forced producers to postpone a much-anticipated movie.
