'Captain Marvel': Jude Law Confirmed To Play Mar-Vell

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson) are directing Captain Marvel for release on March 8, 2019. Per Variety, Jude Law is in negotiations to play the male lead opposite Oscar-winner Brie Larson in Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel.

Ben Mendelson was previously reported as playing the movie's as-yet-unnamed villain.

In the world of Marvel Comics, Danvers gains her powers after an incident that involves Kree technology exploding and infusing her with the powers of Mar-Vell.

Interestingly the movie is planned as a prequel to most of the other Marvel movies, as it will be set in the 1990s.

So, what do you think of the Jude Law Captain Marvel casting?

Law will play 'Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, who becomes a mentor of sorts to Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers'.

Discussing her version of Captain Marvel, Larson said: "To be fair, there are a lot of iterations of her, so there's going to be some people there who think this isn't right".

It was first revealed at San Diego Comic Con that "Captain Marvel" will take place in the early 1990's with Samuel L. Jackson also expected to make an appearance as a younger Nick Fury long before the Avengers were ever a team. He has already signed up to play and is shooting the follow up to Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald. However, a subsequent update confirmed that Law will portray Mar-Vell, Marvel's original Captain Marvel.
