Arsenal Plan January Talks With Goretzka

Arsenal are reportedly hoping to win the race for Tottenham target Leon Goretzka.

Mesut Ozil's agent has opened discussions with Barcelona over a sensational January transfer - and the Spanish soccer giants believe they can land their man for £17million.

The winter transfer window will be Arsenal's last opportunity to receive a fee for Ozil, presuming he doesn't sign a new contract in north London, as the former Real Madrid player is out of contract in the summer.

"They are committed to the group and we will see what happens. He's got to be doing this against Manchester United, Chelsea, West Brom..." The 27-year-old said on Tuesday he was "surprised" not to be called up and added: "You don't play for one of the biggest clubs in the world for as long as I have ...without being able to do everything a top defender needs to do".

According to the Mirror, the officials of Barcelona are concerned about Mesut Ozil's social life, and this could complicate the move. Even if we ignore the frequent rumours of Smalling's imminent departure from Old Trafford, this is more than a little arrogant - unlike Mourinho, Southgate seems more inclined to give young players a chance.

And Don Balon say Barcelona will have a clear path to Ozil if they abandon their pursuit of Goretzka.

It had been suggested that the Gunners were ready to cash in on both players in January, rather them let them leave for free, but the Daily Star claims that only one of them will be allowed to leave before the end of the current campaign. It's not looking like Everton's season, at all.
