Hariri to visit Egypt, expected return to Lebanon on Wednesday

He said that he will celebrate Lebanon's Independence Day on Wednesday, adding he would clarify his political position when he returns to Lebanon.

During the talks, El-Sisi stressed "the need for all parties in Lebanon to reach a consensus, elevate national interests and reject foreign interference in Lebanese internal affairs", according to statement by the presidency.

Hariri's sudden resignation on November 4 thrust Lebanon to the forefront of regional tussle between the Sunni monarchy of Saudi Arabia and Shi'ite Islamist Iran, whose powerful Lebanese ally Hezbollah is part of the government.

Hariri arrived at Cairo International Airport, where he was received by Egypt's health minister, Lebanese ambassador to Cairo and Egypt's ambassador to Beirut, his press office said.

"It was a 45-minute meeting which was requested earlier today through diplomatic channels", Cypriot government spokesman Nikos Christodoulides told Reuters of the meeting between Hariri and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri arrived in Cairo on Tuesday after a three-day visit to France to meet Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Hezbollah and Iran claimed Hariri was held and forced to resign in Riyadh, which Hariri later denied in a TV interview in Riyadh and following his meeting with Macron in Paris.

Hariri's mysterious decision to step down - which the president Michel Aoun has refused to accept while Hariri remains overseas - has raised fears over Lebanon's fragile democracy.
