Southgate warns Crystal Palace midfielder Loftus-Cheek: Everyone knows you now

The father of Chelsea loanee Ruben Loftus-Cheek has hit out at Jose Mourinho over his treatment of the midfielder at Stamford Bridge.

And Terry's main message to the Crystal Palace loan star seems to be: Don't get carried away.

"I've just got to keep working hard, to keep pushing, stay fit, get as many games as I can and who knows what will happen".

"I'm trying to focus on myself and not try to get too caught up in what the media and other people are saying".

"This season, going out and playing has helped him. I think the loan system is very good".

England manager Gareth Southgate spoke highly of Loftus-Cheek after the Germany stalemate and suggested the youngster's Chelsea teammates considered him a "threat" to their squad status. But sometimes the first game is easier because nobody is aware of you.

"My mindset before the game [against Germany] was just to enjoy it because it was a night I'll never forget".

"I've had a lot of texts from the Chelsea boys telling me to just do what I do and hopefully I'll do well, and that was nice".

"I've bumped into him a few times and we've had a few chats about what it's like at Aston Villa for him and he's asking me how I'm doing. He's always been helpful".

Loftus-Cheek gelled well with Dier and Livermore, and there's a case to be made for all three retaining their places in midfield at the moment. While Loftus-Cheek could theoretically play as the creative element alongside one of the more naturally conservative midfielders, Cesc Fabregas is now the senior figure in that position meaning that game time would always have been limited.

"No, because the more you play, the more confidence you get", he said. And if they continue to shine for Crystal Palace, Swansea City and even England, then perhaps in 2017-18, Chelsea fans will finally see two of their own starring regularly in their own team's shirt.

Gareth Southgate is expected to keep faith with youth for Tuesday night's friendly worldwide against Brazil at Wembley.
