Southgate singles out pair for praise after England draw

Ruben Loftus-Cheek put in assured performance on his senior England debut against the reigning World Cup champions-Germany- no less and the youngster reaffirmed his desire to make Garerth Southgate's squad for the next year's tournament in Russian Federation.

"Gareth just said do your best like you normally do".

Chelsea were quick to jump on the hype by congratulating Loftus-Cheek with a dedicated post on Twitter.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek's performance was the talk of Wembley as the young midfielder, on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea, had an outstanding debut against World Cup holders Germany.

'I think they experience some of that with their clubs as well and (against Germany) a very young team - I think in the end, by the time we made the changes, five debutants - really took those things on board well'.

"In the first half there were a couple of really goods saves from Jordan Pickford, we caused our own problems with a couple of those". I'm really pleased with him. "I was with him for almost three years in the Under-21s, so it wasn't too much of a new thing coming here", a visibly exhilarated Loftus-Cheek stated.

The Three Lions fielded an inexperienced eleven with three players making their maiden worldwide appearances, Tammy Abraham joining Loftus-Cheek and Pickford, and totalling just 101 caps with only five players on 10 or more.

"He will gain huge confidence from it".

"We've got to give them belief and we have got to give them time, whether it is me that benefits from that or the next manager".

"At times it was hard for them to press us because of the composure we showed and the system we played, so I think it was a brilliant experience for our players".

"He did everything I know he can do", Southgate said. "It took him 10 minutes to have a look around him and say: 'Hold on, I can do this.' He's got so many good attributes and that's why he's in the team".

Both Cook and Solanke were part of England Under-20's World Cup triumph in the summer.

"I remember Jordan's first couple of under-21 games and we were thinking he was quick around the goal, makes saves".
