USA Gymnast Aly Raisman Says Team Doctor Sexually Abused Her

- Aly Raisman, a six-time Olympic medalist in gymnastics and a two-time national team captain, said she was sexually abused by former Michigan State and USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, CBS News reported.

The doctor, who is in his fifties, spent nearly three decades working with USA Gymnastics and was involved with the team at four Olympic Games.

Nassar is in prison awaiting trial in MI on multiple criminal sexual conduct charges and earlier this year admitted possessing child abuse images.

"Why are we looking at why didn't the girls speak up?" She also pointed out that USA Gymnastics had failed to reach out to athletes, both current and former, and offer them services like counseling. More than 130 women have filed civil lawsuits against the doctor claiming abuse.

The six-time Olympic medalist was the U.S. captain for both the 2012 and 2016 Games, leading her team to gold in the all-around competition both times. "I just want to create change so [that young girls] never, ever have to go through this". In that interview, Raisman kept her comments on this subject general and did not talk about her own personal experience with Nassar.

"I think that, you just want, you want to trust people and that he was just a disgusting person, he took advantage of so many people's trust", Raisman told The Associated Press and USA Today Sports.

In a preview clip, interviewer Jon Lapook says to Raisman at one point that she looks 'angry, ' prompting her to explain why she is so upset with the national team. He reportedly worked as a volunteer physician with USA Gymnastics for more than 30 years.

USA Gymnastics said in its statement following reports on the abuse Raisman suffered that the organization shares Raisman's "passion and concern for athlete safety". Raisman is the second USA gymnast in the past month to accuse Nassar of abuse, with McKayla Maroney making similar claims in mid-October.

Raisman, who is now 23 years old, was first treated by Nassar when she was 15. It sounds like whatever happened to Maroney in that hotel room went way beyond "treatment". Wherever there is a position of power, there seems to be potential for abuse. I had flown all day and night with the team to get to Tokyo. He also faces 33 charges of criminal sexual misconduct in MI. "We want to work with Aly and all interested athletes to keep athletes safe". The policy includes a set of guidelines that depend on mandatory reporting, greater accountability and the general prevention of inappropriate situations or "grooming behavior" by sexual predators.

USA Gymnastics told "60 Minutes" in a statement a "safe sport policy" has been adopted, and the organization is "very sorry" to all victims.
