She rode a cable auto to a watchtower, signed a guestbook and strolled along a stretch of the wall for about half an hour with a small group of aides and security officers, according to the Associated Press. The tour ended with a cultural performance by some of the school's students.

A group of school children holding Chinese and American flags were waiting to greet her at the zoo. "We did exchange what they're working on and what I will work on and what my passion is", Trump said. The children later sang for the first lady.

It's not the two first ladies have met, though, with Xi and Peng having stayed at the Trumps' Mar-a-Lago resort when they visited the United States earlier this year. "It's exciting, as well", she said.

The 47-year-old former model also observed various arts and crafts classes, including one on fashion, where she helped a pupil embellish a traditional cheongsam.

"This visit to China is something I will never forget", the first lady said.

With that, Trump climbed aboard a rattling cable auto for the steep ride up to the top of a mountain, where she posed for pictures in front of the assembled press, accepted a ceremonial scroll, and then turned and walked, alone, along the Great Wall of China.
