Argentina only enjoyed last-gasp qualification for the World Cup after a 3-1 victory in Ecuador in their final qualifying match.

Sergio Aguero scored the first goal at the reopened Luzhniki Stadium as Argentina beat Russian Federation 1-0 in a friendly.

But he will not feature in their fixture with Nigeria in Krasnodar on Tuesday.

"We have to watch him closely in the future", Sampaoli said.

"We play many games in the season - the Champions League, the Copa del Rey, La Liga, plus everything about the national team and the trips".

"We want to reach the World Cup in the best way", Messi was quoted on the official Twitter handle of the Argentine Football Association on Saturday. "Overall, I would say that I would have been sad if Argentina had not gone to the World Cup".

Glushakov arrowed an effort wide and saw a thumping strike after a scramble in the box blocked by Sergio Romero, the goalkeeper making his first save just before the hour mark.

"Our opponents were stronger today but we need to learn how to play right and beat them", Cherchesov said.

Manchester City record goalscorer Aguero, who started in attack with Lionel Messi, headed home at the second attempt from close range.

Only Messi (61) and Gabriel Batistuta (54) sit ahead of Aguero in the ranking.

"I felt bad for not having recognised him at the time because I do know him. Never in his history with the national team has Leo proposed to skip a match", Sampaoli told a press conference at Luzhniki.
