The German, who now wears the No 11 shirt, is out of contract next summer and is seeking a £300,000-a-week deal to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

It means that he is on course to become a free agent in the summer and could, in theory, formally negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from 1st January.

Mesut Ozil could pen a new deal at Arsenal if Arsene Wenger allows him to step into the No 10 jersey which is now filled by Jack Wilshere.

And the desire to wrench the coveted No 10 shirt is part of a move to expand his worldwide brand. He formerly wore the number at Real Madrid after initially being assigned number 23 upon his arrival in Spain, and has now inherited at global level after previously wearing number eight for his country.

His Instagram handle is m10_official and he wears the No 10 jersey when on global duty.

Mesut Ozil is reportedly prepared to sign a new deal at Arsenal if he is handed the number 10 shirt now occupied by Jack Wilshere.

The 29-year-old playmaker has always sought the No 10.

Wilshere has played for Gunners manager Arsene Wenger in the Carabao Cup and Europa League this campaign.

Arsenal, who finished fifth last season, will aim to try and get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Tottenham Hotspur at The Emirates on Saturday 18 November.

And he is now the German No 10 after Lukas Podolski retired.
