New West Ham Boss Moyes Defends Managerial Record After Hammers Fans' Criticism

Former West Ham defender Bilic is the fourth Premier League managerial casualty of the season, the Croatian's exit following those of Frank de Boer (Crystal Palace), Craig Shakespeare (Leicester) and Ronald Koeman (Everton).

David Moyes' contract with West Ham has a break clause that will allow him to leave the club at the end of the current season, it has been claimed. "As with many clubs in Premier League and in Europe, the manager is the one who is paying the price for it". It is a well-established club, a well-run football club, so I am looking forward to getting my teeth into it and obviously the job is to make sure we get wins and get ourselves up the league.

The 54-year-old Moyes has taken charge of 499 games in the Premier League, most during a successful spell with Everton from 2002-13. "He is highly regarded and respected within the game, and will bring fresh ideas, organization and enthusiasm".

In the face of potential fan disgruntlement at his appointment, Moyes pointedly targeted supporters in a video message that presented him as West Ham manager. "We need the support, we need everyone with us". "I've got no doubts about that, but ultimately we have to show it on the pitch". We need everybody with us.

The good news for David Moyes is that he has just under two weeks to prepare for his first game, at Watford after the global break.

The Hammers dropped into the Premier League relegation zone following Saturday's 4-1 defeat to Liverpool.

To no one's surprise, David Moyes was announced as the new West Ham manager early on Tuesday morning.

"I would like to welcome David to West Ham United", he told the Hammers' official website. The team has been prone to collapsing after going behind — it has already lost by at least a three-goal margin on four occasions this season — and lacked any real identity under Bilic.
