Korean Actor Kim Joo-hyuk Dies in Traffic Accident

Actor Kim Joo-hyuk died in a vehicle accident on Monday.

The 45-year-old actor was driving a Mercedes-Benz SUV on Monday when he swerved, causing his auto to crash into the wall of an apartment block and "flip over". Police were investigating the accident.

More detailed results of the autopsy will be revealed in about a week, according to police.

Kim's Mercedes-Benz SUV was driving along Yeongdong Daero when it hit a auto and then fell down a staircase leading to an apartment building entrance.

Footage of the accident recorded by a vehicle behind Kim's auto showed that Kim's SUV crashed into the right side of another auto.

Acute myocardial infarction is the medical name for a heart attack.

Kim's agency Namoo Actors said on Tuesday that Kim's wake will be held at Asan Medical Centre in Songpa-gu, Seoul, from 3 pm on Tuesday, while the funeral will take place on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the production team of the popular 2 Days & 1 Night reality show issued a statement to pay homage to Kim. Kim will be buried at a family vault in Seosan city in South Chungcheong Province. The Blue Dragon Awards, one of the country's top awards ceremonies, equivalent to the Oscars, has canceled its annual hand-printing ceremony that had been slated for Wednesday, featuring winners of the previous year's edition, including The Magnificent Seven star Lee Byung-hun.

In December 2016, Kim said that he was in a relationship with actress Lee Yu-young.

Mr Kim started his 20-year career starring in romantic comedies but later branched out into more diverse roles in crime films and historical TV dramas like "Yourself and Yours", "Confidential Assignment" and "Hur Jun: The Original Story". He was scheduled to play a small part in the upcoming period zombie action film Rampant, but had yet to film his scenes.
