8-year-old girl falls to her death from docked cruise ship

A family's Caribbean trip ended in tragedy when an 8-year-old girl fell two stories from a deck on board a cruise ship the Carnival Glory just after docking in Miami.

The ship's medical team responded and Miami-Dade police were contacted, the statement said.

The girl fell off the second-story balcony in the interior atrium of the Carnival Cruise ship Glory shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday during the unloading process, according to authorities.

This is really hard to hear and we do hope she pulls through.

It's unclear what led the child to fall.

Passenger Bob Dorr, a retired emergency medical technician, told the television station that he was the first to provide CPR to the child as a police officer held her neck.

A couple of hours after the fact, Miami-Dade police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta announced the young lady was dead.

7News cameras captured family members at the hospital, where they spent much of the day.

Relatives said that the girl, named Zion, and believed to be from the Bahamas, was out of their sight for a few seconds before she fell.

"It happened so fast", said Kassim. "That's all I see".

"If she had landed on the couch, she probably would have had a chance", said Vickie Lewis.

The ship had just arrived at PortMiami at the time of the incident.

"Our most heartfelt care and concern is with the family at this very hard time", Cruz added in the statement.
