Mukul Roy quits Trinamool, Rajya Sabha

Mukul Roy resigned from his Rajya Sabha seat and gave up membership of Trinamool Congress on Wednesday before lashing out at the party for "dynasty politics" but did not categorically state whether he will join the BJP or revive Nationalist Trinamool Congress that he had formed several years ago.

He met Rajya Sabha chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu to submit his resignation on Wednesday saying that he was quitting with a heavy heart.

Roy, who was suspended for six years for "anti-party activities" by the Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress following his September 25 announcement that he would resign after Durga Puja, also said that he had never considered the Bharatiya Janata Party a "communal party".

"All political leaders who want West Bengal to grow would like to join the BJP and work under Prime Minister Narendra Modi", Mr. Vijayvargiya said in response to queries. He recalled that he was one of the signatories when the Election Commission had recognised the TMC as a political party. He was among those who left the Congress for the TMC when Ms Banerjee made a decision to form her own party. We went to the people with the slogan 3G - to highlight Congress corruption in coal, 2G and CWG.

The fissures widened in 2015 when Mr Roy's name came up in the Saradha chit fund scam and he was removed as the party's general secretary. However, when he was asked whether this also include the charges against Amit Shah's son Jay, Roy said the BJP chief 's son is not in politics.

"It was the alliance with the BJP which helped the TMC to taste success in its initial years, be it the 1998 or 1999 Lok Sabha polls", he asserted. That was the reason why Trinamool Congress was created.

Earlier, there were also reports that the leader had been meeting BJP leaders.

Without giving detailed information, the founding members of TMC, Roy had said that he was not getting important posts despite his role in the party during its origin in 1997. "Nothing has been decided as of now as we are yet to take a call on this". However, he said any party would benefit from Mukul Roy's joining and said the BJP has given chance to leaders of other parties whom the leadership thought could be an asset for the BJP.
