Man charged after rooftop stand-off near girlfriend's dead body

About 6:30am on Monday, a pedestrian near the Chatswood train station saw a woman lying in a pool of blood in an alleyway off Brown Street, Chatswood.

A tense 12-hour stand-off has ended, with a man arrested following a police operation in Chatswood yesterday.

POLICE are negotiating with a man dangling off the roof of an apartment block after the shocking discovery of a woman's body on the ground below.

At a number of points throughout the stand-off he hung his leg or his head over the edge, often looking down on the crime scene tent erected to hide the woman's body in the alley below.

After 7am, police saw a man lying on the awning over a 27th floor balcony of a nearby apartment block.

Mr Seo appeared distressed and at times dangled his legs off the high balcony.

For more than 12 hours police and a Korean interpreter negotiated with the man, before successfully removing him from the rooftop shortly after 7pm.

Police have said they can not remove the victim's body and secure the crime scene while the man is still on the awning.

Police believe the incident is related to a domestic violence incident.

He did not appear when the matter was mentioned in Hornsby Court on Tuesday afternoon and his lawyer did not apply for bail.
