Virbhadra to be Cong's CM candidate for HP polls: Rahul

Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Himachal Pradesh CM was out on bail much like the central leadership of the Congress, AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday declared CM Virbhadra Singh as the party's next chief ministerial face for the poll-bound state.

As several leaders in the country as well as in Meghalaya are set to desert the Congress party, Former External Affairs Minister and senior Congress leader, Salman Khurshid on Saturday lambasted the leaders who have deserted the party for greener pastures saying party should not accept those leaders ever again.

On 4 October, Gandhi said Modi must stop wasting time and start providing employment to the youth as promised while addressing a farmers' rally in his Lok Sabha constituency, Amethi.

"The fall in GDP by 2 per cent speaks in volumes about mismanagement of the economic reforms", he added. Not only this, he also attacked NDA Government for imposing Goods and Service Tax (GST) on people of the country creating trouble for all sections of the society.

Congress leader from Rajasthan Sachin Pilot had earlier said that Rahul is likely to be appointed as the Congress chief after Diwali. This was the biggest blow on the Indian economy, he said.

"He (Rahul Gandhi) has something in his mind and he is working to that and as and when he disclosed his plans, we will be there to support him", he said.

"I've collected data of Modi's Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh for the last five years".

He criticised the Gujarat model of development which he termed as befooling the people of Gujarat in name of development. Social security pension was Rs.700 per month in Himachal and mere Rs.450 in Gujarat.

He claimed that anger was building up among the youth against the Centre and said more farmers were forced to commit suicides in BJP-ruled states due to the apathy of the right-wing party's governments. The rally will take place amid infighting between Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and state unit chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Gandhi's family or the Congress party has a long India political history from late 1920's.

Officially launching the election campaign at a public meeting here, Gandhi, in his 15-minute address in Hindi, compared the development of this hill state ruled by the Congress with that of BJP-ruled Gujarat.
