While Channing Tatum is still ultra-hot for the project, the seductive Gambit could therefore have found a new conductor in the person of Gore Verbinski.

But Verbinski is a seasoned director when it comes to big box movies and he does know how to entertain. Verbinski's last film was A Cure for Wellness, and prior to that he directed the 2013 bomb The Lone Ranger.

Now we've got another (hopefully just the joining part, not the leaving part) in Gore Verbinski. Originally scheduled for be released on October 7, 2016, Rise of the Planet of the Apes' Rupert Wyatt was hired in June 2015 to direct the Ragin' Cajun's solo adventure. It's pitched as a type of Oceans 11-with-superheroes heist film as LeBeau becomes a member of a New Orleans Thieves Guild, and after falling in love with female thief Bella Donna Boudreaux from a rival group, tries to bring the two guilds together to pull off one massive heist.

Taylor Kitsch played the character in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Tatum will also be producing the film along with Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg. While Verbinksi is no stranger to working on blockbusters after helming the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, if he finalizes a deal with 20th Century Fox, this will be his first directing a superhero movie. "And he always felt the most real of the "X-Men" to me". Josh Zetumer wrote the screenplay.

Tatum has been attached to the film since about 2014.
