"There is a strong relationship of trust between Jupp Heynckes and FC Bayern", said club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge of the coach who has already led Bayern three times in the past, adding: "He is at the moment the ideal coach for Bayern".

Heynckes has not had a job in football since guiding Bayern to a historic treble in 2013, but confessed he simply could not turn the club down. "I don't want to come back earlier than that but inside I still want to coach every single day, therefore I don't think I would join a national team". He is not "very much looking forward" to working with the team and getting them back on track for the rest of the season.

But, Bayern too close to the heart. We are very grateful to Jupp for agreeing to be our head coach.

This will be Heynckes' fourth spell at the club, having previously been at the helm from 1987-1991, for a five-game spell in 2009, and again from 2011-2013. He later announced his retirement.

Bayern Munich have created 105 chances in the Bundesliga this season.

The veteran coach, who also won the Champions League with Real Madrid says he is excited about the task that awaits and has promised to do whatever possible to ignite what has been a forgettable season to date. "I wish you a great and successful time, Jupp Heynckes!".
