Pressure to stay in the south eventually became too great, though, as Fields backed away from his Lions pledge in June before picking Georgia midway through his senior season.

Five-star quarterback Justin Fields, the No. 1 class of 2018 recruit on the 247Sports Composite, will play his college football at Georgia, he announced on Friday. "I felt like they wanted me the whole time, I mean coach (Dell) McGee, I feel like he's probably the best recruiter in the country". "Fields is a national championship quarterback", Simmons wrote.

Georgia's 2018 class now sits at 16 commitments. His commitment makes Georgia the only program in the country to sign/get commitments from more quarterback talent than Ohio State.

The remaining targets are a who's who of top prospects in the Class of 2018.

During those events, Fields has been able to play alongside a number of Georgia commits. That would be impressive considering the last time Georgia finished in the top-five of the class rankings prior to 2017 was in 2012 when Mark Richt was the head coach.

Fromm has exceeded expectations, beating Notre Dame, Mississippi State and Tennessee in convincing fashion, and has helped Georgia off to a 5-0 start. Smart has won his biggest recruiting battle for this cycle. All three could be on the roster by spring. Immediately, Georgia's slow-starting class jumps from #13 in the nation to #6, ahead of the Florida Gators and just behind the Tennessee Volunteers' class. He also visited Auburn, Alabama and LSU for Saturday home games this season.
