Additionally, Sony is reviewing the PlayStation Move motion controller used in many PS VR games and has a "plan to release" a PlayStation 4-exclusive model with a micro-B USB connection.

The most noticeable update is that the headphones have been integrated directly into the headset. For users of the old PSVR, headphones had to be connected via a 3.5mm port on the side of the remote some way down the cable.

There's no details on when exactly it will release in the United States or any other region, as the blog says they will "share details on the launch timing in North America at a later date", but the pricing of PSVR and its bundles will remain the same.

With the launch of a new PlayStation VR headset, Sony is apparently looking to stay relevant and on top of the virtual reality market. In other words, users will not have to disconnect the unit in order to enjoy HDR-enabled content.

Sony announced the new hardware revision, which comes with the model number CUH-ZVR2, on its PlayStation blog Monday.

Sony hasn't yet said when the new PlayStation VR headset will arrive on shelves, but some reports claim that it'll start shipping in less than two week's time on 14 October. The packaging for the refreshed headset will also be slightly different, with a new product image that shows the changes. Naturally, the new model is compatible with all content made for PlayStation VR before.

PlayStation owners who are wondering how to afford the upcoming plethora of games for the console can now rest, as Sony has unveiled a PlayStation gamer credit card. As such, we can expect to see the older model phased out with Sony concentrating on its more capable successor; people expecting to see a true second-generation PS VR headset may need to wait a little longer though.

Will you be purchasing the new headset? We'll keep you updated should those regions receive the new edition. Pricing for the hardware, which recently got a price drop, will remain the same.
