Wisconsin girl reaches plea deal in Slender Man case

The Leutner family issued a statement saying they had no comment about Friday's hearing but will issue a statement at a plea hearing Thursday when Geyser's deal will be formalized.

Morgan Geyser, the second suspect in Wisconsin's infamous and controversial "Slender Man" trial, has reached a plea deal that will allow her to avoid prison for the 2014 stabbing of a 12-year-old friend. The victim has since recovered from her injuries. The plea deal comes after a jury this month determined that Weier was mentally ill at the time of the attack on Leutner.

Geyser and Weier, as well as the victim, were all just 12 years old at the time.

The stabbing and the court proceedings have received widespread attention, including because the girls were so young and the premeditated attack was so brutal.

Fifteen-year-old Morgan Geyser will appear in court on October 5 to plead guilty to a charge of attempted first-degree murder, attorney Donna Kuchler said.

According to prosecutors, the girls attacked their classmate due to an infatuation with a fictional Internet character they dubbed "Slender Man" - who they believed threatened their families. Both Geyser and Weier were charged as adults.

Geyser pleaded not guilty, while Weier pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and earlier this month was found not legally responsible for the crime by a Waukesha County jury. She will be committed to a mental hospital operated by the state Department of Health Services, Kuchler said.

During a hearing in August, Weier said that she didn't want to harm Leutner and that the stabbing plot was Geyser's idea.

One of the girls encountered the name of Slender Man on a website known as Creepypasta Wiki, authorities said.

"The results of those evaluations will help determine her placement", Kuchler said in an email. He is typically depicted as a spidery figure in a black suit with a featureless white face.
