Bengaluru: Kidnapped son of Income Tax officer killed, body found near lake

Four men have been arrested in connection with the crime; one of the them is Sharath's best friend - Vishal. Vikky works as a cab driver while Karan is employed at a factory and Vinod does not have a regular job. Claiming that he had learnt about the incident through media reports, he asked Sharath's sister about the family's course of action.

According to police, Sharath Kumar (19), a second-year engineering student, went missing on September 12 after he left his home in west Bengaluru on a new motorcycle his parents had gifted him. He made the calls over WhatsApp to evade possible monitoring of call records. "Please arrange the money as soon as possible at any cost", Sharath had said as reported by Deccan Chronicle.

The report added that Sharath's mother also sent an SMS to her son saying that they would complain to the police.

In the same video, Sharath also told his parents that the kidnappers looked like terrorists and also threatened to kidnap his sister. He ended by asking the kidnappers "is that ok, is this what you wanted me to say". They forced Sharath to ask his parents to pay Rs 50 lakh for his freedom and sent that recording to his parents on WhatsApp. As Vishal was around with the parents, police did not initially suspect him. Vishal told Sharath to meet near Shirke Apartment at Kengeri Satellite Town, and then later they rode their bikes till Ullal RTO office. After two days the body came over the water, the accused again became scared, once again they tied the dead body with a big stone and threw it into the water, but after 2 days the body returned to the surface again. They strangled Sharath on the car's backseat and drove towards Ramohalli Lake (also known as Narasimhaiah Lake), around 4km from Big Banyan tree. After this, the accused put the body inside the vehicle for 1 day and then the next day, near the adjoining district of Ramnagar, was buried in stone mines near the village.

After the murder of Sharad, his body was taken into the vehicle and his friends took him to a pond near Chandrappa circle in Mysore Road and threw the body with stone and threw it into the water. They disposed the body in a trench at Kurubarapalya Bande on September 20, Krishnamurthy said. The police exhumed the body, conducted a post-mortem and handed the body over to the family.
