SpaceX celebrates its many failures in hilarious new blooper reel

SpaceX has published a hilarious "blooper reel" video that collates all of the firm's failed rocket booster landings.

'Look, that's not an explosion...it's just a rapid unscheduled disassembly, ' the video states. There are rockets crashing into a landing platform at sea and into the ocean itself, and one test vehicle that went awry and exploded in midair. "Maybe Falcon realized it still loved us or finally read the instructions..."

SpaceX has now managed to land a total of 16 Falcon 9 first stage orbital boosters, and it's been a while since it lost one in the attempt.

Along with each clip is a caption explaining why the landing failed. Some of the reasons mentioned in the video are a sticky throttle valve, running out of hydraulic fluid, engine sensor failure, running out of liquid oxygen and more. Musk has promised to get that sorted out before the end of this year. "It's just a scratch".

In a 2005 interview, Musk said, "Failure is an option here", and, "If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough".

Knowing they have started to crack the problem then, it's understandable Musk approached the "blooper reel" cheerfully.

Who knew a video without explosions could be even more satisfying than one with them? But since the hard work of the team resulted in success, Musk will surely be proud to share this journey (with a mix of humor) with fans.

SpaceX successfully launched its latest Falcon 9 rocket in mid-August.

The company aims to decrease launch costs by using reusable rocket parts.

SpaceX made its first successful drone ship landing in April 2016.
