Yes, the cool asymmetric interior design, blade-like door mirrors, and aerodynamic pods behind each headrest are highly unlikely to survive the transition from fantasy to reality, but if the Z4 Concept's overall proportions and design can be retained, BMW is on to a victor.

The open-roof performance auto segment will soon see the arrival of the next-generation BMW Z4, The new 2018 BMW Z4 is set to debut in concept form at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California on August 17, 2017. The overall effect is one of lithe aggression and should suit the Z4 perfectly with a low shark-nosed front-end that rises in a wedge shape to the muscular rear haunches. The folding tin-tops in today's 4-series Convertible and Z4 have complex operations, erode into luggage space and add substantial weight to the cars.

It's still obviously a front engine/rear drive two-seater sitting on a long wheelbase, but the bonnet is shorter than before and the driver sits further forward. The BMW Concept Z4 Roadster will be publically shown on the Concept Lawn of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Sunday. In a departure from the BMW norm, the Concept Z4 provides a vertical interpretation of the classical four-eyed headlight look, with two overlapping tubes on each side. The second is the World Premiere of the BMW Concept Z4. "Above the instrument cluster, the Head-Up Display presents the key driving information within the driver's direct field of view".

The Concept Z4, introduced during Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach, Calif., is BMW's vision of a modern roadster.

"From our heritage, but we want to reinterpret everything at the same time". Together, these elements make a forceful statement and create a model brimming with character. Our recommended Sport trim gets you sports seats and bespoke alloy wheels - and the 220d engine we recommend is punchy yet reasonably economical.

So it sounds like it will be sportier than the previous Z4?

"We are basically previewing the production auto". While being a concept model, it may not be fully carried over to the actual Roadster production, the chief designer has confirmed that they plan to use at least 80 percent of what is seen in the concept.

And what's underneath the Concept? Sharp edges are featured on the side mirrors and wheels as well, which is nice design refreshment from what we used to see from BMW.
