We Happy Few, Compulsion Games's incredibly freaky first-person horror game, has been in a kind of limbo since it was first revealed back in 2015.

When We Happy Few finally launches as a finish product, it will contain a fleshed-out story that is now not available in the Early Access form (a story the team has been working on for three years). Gearbox wants to expand on that by adding to the initial release version & bringing it to XBox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. You can also still try it for free on Xbox One, and with DLC planned, a Season Pass will also be available for the game.

We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately bad people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial.

A former Kickstarter title, We Happy Few has been in Early Access on the above-mentioned platforms since July 2016, with a final release expected to hit sometime in the relatively near future.

The three protagonists will have unique abilities, stories, and "dark secrets", according to Compulsion Games, each with their own reasons for wanting to escape the British dystopia. "Gearbox believed in us from the very beginning, and we think this partnership will make it possible to create the game that our community expects", said Guillaume Provost, Studio Head of Compulsion Games. If you pre-order through the Microsoft Store, Steam, GOG.com or Humble Store, you'll get access to the alpha version when you reserve the game. There will also be a Collector's Edition, priced at $149.99, full of We Happy Few-themed swag.

We Happy Few is set in an alternate-history version of 1960s England in the fictional town of Wellington Wells. But like many Early Access games, my interest waned pretty quickly, as the reality of Alpha testing reared its ugly, buggy head.

A collector's version-which doesn't include a copy of the game, but instead features various 60s-inspired items-will be available for $150 Dollars.
