Wozniacki earns Rogers Cup final berth

After a marathon quarter-final win a day earlier, Caroline Wozniacki was at her efficient best Saturday at the Rogers Cup. She had to play two matches on Saturday after her Friday quarterfinal was postponed due to rain.

On the other side of the bracket is the fifth seed Svitolina, who defeated the second seed and defending champion Simona Halep 6-1, 6-1.

On Sunday in Toronto, Svitolina remained flawless in finals on the year and further entrenched herself as an elite player in the current landscape with a 6-4, 6-0 win in the Rogers Cup final over Caroline Wozniacki.

Sixth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki defeated Sloane Stephens 6-2, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon to reach the final of the Rogers Cup women's tennis tournament.

With the win, Svitolina will move up one spot to a career-high world No.4 when the new rankings are released on Monday. I think my concentration and just my playing has gone up a notch.

Wozniacki is a 2010 Rogers Cup victor. The Dane then held serve and followed with another break to dismiss Pliskova in 2 hours, 56 minutes and advance to the semifinals of the Toronto event for the first time. After that, I feel like I stepped a little bit closer to the line just to try and take away a little bit of time.

The 22-year-old Ukrainian was so doubtful that she could even reach the final that she had a flight booked on Friday to the next tournament in Cincinnati. "I just kept hanging in there and I thought we both played a really good match".

It was Svitolina's fourth victory over a top-10 opponent this week and third win in two days. "I'm just playing better".

Being crowned champion meant Svitolina became a history-maker as the first player to win three Premier 5 titles in a season, adding to her victories in Dubai - also against Wozniacki - and Rome.

There was a six-minute rain delay late in the second set.

Pliskova still managed to secure a break in the fifth game of the deciding set, but Wozniacki scrapped to deny a double-break, holding from 30-30 in the seventh.
