The Most Expensive House in America Revealed

The most expensive house in the United States, has been put up for sale this week and it can be yours for the modest sum of $350 million.

Despite the fact that the object is not in Beverly hills, it was here in the 1960's were famous sitcom.

The home was originally built in 1933, and includes 25,000 square feet of living space, including a ballroom, world-class wine cellar, formal salon and "period-paneled dining room", according to a joint press release from listing brokers at Coldwell Banker Global Luxury, Hilton & Hyland and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. You may want to consider stocking it with bottles from Rupert Murdoch's winery, a nearby neighbour.

Perenchio vastly expanded the property - there's also a 5,700sq foot guesthouse, a 75ft pool and poolhouse, tennis courts and an underground garage for dozens of cars. Inspired by 18th-century French neoclassical architecture, the chateau-style abode served as the Clampett family's mansion in the 1960s hit television series The Beverly Hillbillies.

Chartwell was owned by billionaire media tycoon Jerry Perenchio.

Dramatic views span from downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean.

During his 30-plus year residency and unquestionably deep-pocketed stewardship, Mister Perenchio substantially added to the estate. And in 1986 and purchased by Jerry Perenchio. (Although spending almost half of one's net worth on a giant estate that will require constant upkeep and staffing seems unwise, even for a hillbilly.) But given the current low price of WTI Crude, down almost 50 per cent from 2013-14, it seems that Chartwell would be out of his budget.
