Burnley's pre-season 'friendly' with Hannover abandoned due to crowd trouble

Trouble broke out in the section occupied by Hanover fans, with seats thrown and reports that knives were brandished at stewards trying to keep the thugs away from the Burnley supporters.

Lancashire police have urged any fans with footage of crowd disorder at yesterday's abandoned Burnley match to come forward.

But he sees a club heading in the right direction and after his taste of Premier League football last season he is keen for more in 2017/18.

'Children and families were in attendance at what was a pre-season friendly match, which should have passed peacefully and without incident - but which ended up being abandoned due to the behaviour of some of the travelling Hannover fans.

The Premier League club were leading 1-0 at half-time thanks to a goal from Ben Mee when the game was called off.

Hannover fans clash with stewards and police in the stands of the English team's home match.

Two stewards also suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. That was pretty early.

"We are still piecing together the details", said Burnley manager Sean Dyche. "Hopefully nobody has got hurt", he said.

In a statement released on its website on Saturday night, Hannover said: "Our attitude is clear: Hannover 96 condemns the incidents in the stadium and dissociates itself vehemently from any kind of violence".

Let's hope that goes a bit better, eh lads? "No one wanted anything other than a game of football".

"During the disorder Hannover fans also caused damage to the stands by ripping out seating, before using it as weapons and missiles against officers and grounds staff".

Send footage of the disorder to police online at http://socsi.in/TqiAp, quoting log 546 of August 5.
