The Spain worldwide is believed to have been informed via text message from manager Antonio Conte that the striker was no longer wanted at Stamford Bridge.

A deal for the Spain worldwide to return to his former club seems to have stalled in recent weeks, with Atletico under a transfer imbargo this summer so unable to register new players until 2018. But the club's transfer embargo prohibits them from completing a deal until January 2018, while Chelsea's £44m valuation may also prove to be a stumbling block.

"All the players want to stay, they want to achieve even better goals and get even better", Simeone told reporters.

"If he comes in January... we can't say anything about that yet", Simeone said.

Costa is under contract with Chelsea until June 2019 and has made 120 appearances for the club, scoring 58 goals in all competitions.

"I won't speak about him now". We had a lot to talk about with him. "That is what is important".

The striker is now keen on a return to Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid side but the Spanish side currently under a transfer ban.

Sky Sports are reporting that big-spending AC Milan would take the striker though they would have preferred a permanent deal for the striker. Spells with Celta Vigo, Albacete, Real Valladolid and Rayo Vallecano helped push Costa into the first team in Madrid, eventually earning a £32m move to west London in 2014. Costa had previously ruled out any club other than Atletico, but perhaps that stance has shifted now as well.
