Guy Ritchie ('The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,' "Snatched") is attached to direct, with John August ('Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, ' Big Fish') providing the script.

Actress Naomi Scott, who recently played the Pink Ranger in Power Ranger Reboot, will be portraying Princess Jasmine in the live action remake.

Live-action Aladdin has found its Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie in the form of Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith, respectively.

Production was expected to begin on Aladdin this month, but the studio confronted some trouble casting its leads. The recent remake of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson was a box office hit.

Mena Massoud is taking on the lead role of Aladdin. Considering the level of competition that there was for these roles, one can only assume that these skills have already been well tested and so I have little doubt that Scott and Massoud will be up to the task.

Scott's mother Usha Scott is from Uganda and is of Gujarati Indian descent. But Scott sings, she acts, and she's definitely got the style.
