Olympic gold medalist ingested banned substance from kissing his girlfriend

Roberts - a 400m runner who helped the USA win gold in the 4X400 relay at the Rio Olympics - was suspended on a provisional basis in May after his A and B samples from a March testing period came back positive for a masking agent called probenecid.

Rio Olympics 4x400 meter relay gold medalist Gil Roberts can finally breathe a sigh of relief as he was cleared of all doping charges.

He later told the US Anti-Doping Agency (Usada) he had contaminated the substance from his girlfriend. It's not just the kissing he said was responsible.

Roberts's urine sample had traces of banned substance Probenecid and following his dazed looks at the results, investigation on the matter revealed that the ace runner actually ingested the substance from kissing his girlfriend Alex Salazar who had taken a medicine for a sinus infection.

Roberts, who had been provisionally suspended, has since competed in the 400m at last month's U.S. track and field championships, in which he qualified for August's World Championships in London by finishing second in 44.22 seconds, behind Fred Kerley.

"Whenever they were together, they kissed frequently and passionately", a USADA report released by TOI said. Roberts' paramour bought the drug during a trip to India and was still taking it when she returned to the US. "He had no idea that kissing his girlfriend could lead to his ingesting a prohibited substance".

He was not banned, in part to consideration of previous, similar cases of tennis player Richard Gasquet and pole vaulter Shawn Barber failing drug tests for cocaine after kissing women who had used the drug. "When he kissed her he did not remember the taste of medicine in her mouth", the arbitrator said.

Here's the thing though, Roberts isn't the first track athlete to blame KISSING on a positive drug test.

Roberts' girlfriend later googled Moxylong and found that it contained probenecid.
