Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has called for a high-level meeting after a major accident was averted in the state Assembly on Wednesday.

However, Chief Minister Adityanath has taken cognizance into the issue and has sought for a National Investigative Agency (NIA) probe into it.

After explosive powder, Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate (PETN), found in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the security arrangements have been reportedly tightened. "Apart from this, security audit of the entire Assembly complex is being done", Kumar said.

Adityanath has also directed officials involved with the security of the assembly building to be more vigilant.

On Thursday, during an ongoing Assembly session, a packet was found under the seat of Samajwadi Party MLA Manoj Pandey containing a white powder, weighing 60 grammes. "I suggest that everybody present in the Assembly should be investigated by the police and that the NIA should investigate into the matter", said the CM. The official said that they will be able to reach the roots of conspiracy only after receiving proper details, data and surveillance footage of the assembly. "If explosives can be found under (sic) the Leader of Opposition's seat, image the condition of rest of UP". The explosive used in the packet is one of the most powerful explosives and is very hard to detect.

The newspaper cited Hans Michels, an explosives expert at Imperial College, London, confirming PETN as the most risky explosive of choice. We take a look at the deadly plastic explosive which has been used in a number of terrorist plots in the past.

Immediately after the announcement, the security of Vidhan Bhawan was stepped up and Quick Response Teams (QRT) from the PAC deployed at the gates. Meanwhile, the entry has been prohibited to those who do not have the Assembly pass, while each and every person entering the secretariat is being thoroughly checked. "This is a unsafe tendency that security of assembly is breached when House is in session", he said. PETN was also used to trigger serial blasts in Varanasi a year ago.
