Palestinian shot dead by Israeli army in Jenin clashes: medics

Israeli occupation forces killed 2 Palestinian youths during a raid in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank early Wednesday, Palestinian medical and security sources said.

According to the army, 21 Palestinians were detained across the West Bank for stone throwing and violent protests.

Mohammed Sadee, who lives in the camp, told Reuters he witnessed one of the Palestinians being shot.

The Israeli forces claimed that the soldiers opened fire at "two attackers" after "Palestinian armed persons opened fire at them and threw explosive devices at the forces stationed in the camp". The army would not provide details on why the soldiers were in the area at the time.

Mourners carried their bodies through the streets, their bodies wrapped in Palestinian flags.

Last year, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government quietly passed one of its most significant concessions to the Palestinians: A plan to alter the occupied West Bank map and turn over a small chunk of Israeli-controlled territory.

"They opened fire on him because they thought that he wanted to harm them".

Since October 2015, 277 Palestinians have been martyred while 42 Israelis have been killed.

"The army was in the city of Jenin arresting a number of Palestinians - most of whom were former prisoners - before they raided the camp", said Mujahid al-Saadi, a local journalist.

The violence has greatly subsided in recent months.
