2 Live Crew co-founder Christopher Wong Won has died at the age of 53, according to former group member and manager Luther Campbell.

Fresh Kid Ice, whose real name is Chris Wong Won, passed away from an undisclosed medical condition in a Miami hospital this morning (July 13, 2017).

In 1984, Wong Won co-formed 2 Live Crew with rappers DJ Mr. Mixx and fantastic V. Shortly after, they teamed up with Campbell and moved to Miami. Famously, the group's 1989 album As Nasty As They Wanna Be became the first album to be declared legally obscene by a court. 2 Live Crew's debut single, 1985's "Revelation", proved popular in Florida, so the troupe relocated to Miami. Miami rapper and record producer Luther Campbell, aka Luke Skyywalker, offered 2 Live Crew a recording contract.

Fresh Kid and Campbell were arrested in 1990 after a live performance police deemed obscene and lewd. The trio formed the group 2 Live Crew in 1984 and scored a number of his records including the controversial single "Me So Horny".

Fresh Kid also suffered his first stroke on Thanksgiving 2009, which was followed by a second stroke early 2010, and he had to retrain himself to walk and correct his speech. He discovered the rapper Flo Rida.

In a 2016 interview with Vice, he described the current state of Asian representation in rap and hip hop music. On Instagram, the rap artist also shared an image of Fresh Kid smiling with the same mournful caption.

'The Asians were there in the beginning of hip-hop - but as DJs, ' he said.
