There was no word yet on the cause of the fire.

In Butte County, some residents returned to their neighborhoods only to find their homes destroyed by the 5,800-acre Wall Fire.

The larger of two blazes in Santa Barbara County has scorched more than 45 square miles (116 square kilometers) of dry brush and is still threatening more than 130 homes. The fire, which was 60% contained, still threatens 606 structures.

The organization started distributing $600 per household financial assistance on Tuesday to help evacuated people who have registered with the Red Cross, Hopkins said, adding this is by no means the end of assistance.

EnGold Mines Ltd has suspended all exploration in the region and Imperial Metals Corp said it had significantly reduced operations at one of its mines.

The fire has burned almost four square miles, injured four firefighters and destroyed at least 10 structures so far, fire spokeswoman Mary Ann Aldrich told The Oregonian.
