INBC calls for donations as blood supplies reach low levels

It takes 300 blood donations every day to meet the needs of area patients and to be ready for emergencies. The current O-negative blood supply sits at an approximate two-day supply, which is half of the ideal quantity needed to support patient needs.

In this month alone, the agency is 5,700 donations short and expect the deficits to continue throughout August.

Virginia Blood Services says blood supplies across the Commonwealth and the country are "dangerously low".

Its easy to donate, for more information or to schedule an appointment go to their United Blood Services website.

"We all expect blood to be there for us if we ever need it", said United Blood Services Regional Field Director Pascen Booth.

Click/tap here to download the free azfamily mobile app. Donations from O-negative donors, the universal blood type, are especially important this time of year due to increased accidents and trauma cases. 10 a.m.to 3 p.m. Additionally, numerous of blood drives are scheduled for the upcoming weeks.

Blood donated in this community helps save the lives of patients in 47 different hospitals throughout New Mexico and the Four Corners Region.

Quintard Mall, 700 Quintard Ave.in Oxford at 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. S in Birmingham at 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Donors should be 18 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.
