Within seconds, the juveniles grabbed purses, snatched cellphones and left at least two victims with face and head injuries, according to BART. "I looked back again and saw that they were attacking this one family". After arriving to the second-story platform, the thieves manually held open the doors to the train vehicle while other miscreants flooded in, according to SFGATE. But what's unusual about this incident is the size of the group, she said.

Two BART station agents called police but the suspects fled into a nearby East Oakland neighborhood by the time police arrived about five minutes later, officials told KRON-TV. The video footage will be shared with Oakland Police Department, Oakland Unified School District and Oakland Housing Authority to help identify the minors, she said.

More than 100 officers descended on Hollywood and searched for hours for the young people, many of whom arrived in Hollywood by subway, police said. "We did have increased police presence Saturday night at Oakland stations".

Director Robert Raburn said he was "very disturbed that such an aggressive action would put BART passengers and employees at risk". Trost says the footage will not be released publicly because the individuals are all believed to be juveniles.

The suspects took one purse, one duffel bag and five cell phones, with six of the robberies taking place on the train vehicle and one on the platform, the log said.

In a February 9 report to BART's Operations and Public Safety Committee, officials said crimes against persons, which include homicides, robberies, rapes and aggravated assaults, were up in the last quarter (October to December 2016) and up from the corresponding quarter of the prior fiscal year. However, since victims could not say for sure which auto they were on, police are in the process of looking at images from all six of the cars equipped with cameras.

They entered a Dublin-bound train vehicle on the second-story platform, and then grabbed bags and cellphones from passengers, police said.

"We are working with allied agencies to bring the juveniles to justice", BART said.

The latest mass robbery is just one in a string of similar crimes on BART trains in recent weeks, though it appears none of the prior incidents were as organized as this one.
