Aretha Franklin performs during the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival Opening Gala premiere of "Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of our Lives" at Radio City Music Hall on April 19, 2017.
New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo came out to the packed Radio City crowd, praising Davis as a true New Yorker (he was born and raised in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, ) and then introducing Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro, the founders of festival.
Apple Music has picked up exclusive rights to the documentary Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives yesterday. In addition to footage of Houston's first television appearance, a 1985 performance on The Merv Griffin Show, The Soundtrack of My Life includes an early demo of "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" that Davis says in the film would have been fine for an artist like Olivia Newton-John. It is based on Davis' 2013 memoir, "The Soundtrack of My Life". He lost his parents while he was an undergraduate at New York University, and later attended Harvard Law School.
"I wasn't going to miss this evening", said Franklin, who asked forgiveness for missing some notes as she recovered from an upper respiratory infection.
From 1967 to 1973, Davis was the president of Columbia Records. "It certainly gives a very compelling picture of the relationship that I had with Whitney Houston and of course that's filled with emotional impact, and it really showed sides of Whitney that no one has ever seen before".
He went on to play a key role in the careers of Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston, Santana, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Aerosmith, Simon & Garfunkel, Janis Joplin, Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, the Kinks, the Grateful Dead and the Eurythmics.
"No matter who you voted for, fight for the arts in school please", she told the audience. He was the founder and president of Arista Records from 1975 through 2000 before heading RCA Music Group.
"Apple is a global innovator that has revolutionized the distribution of music".
