Nicole Kidman's dark side is out to play in The Beguiled trailer
Based on Thomas Cullinan 1966's novel A Painted Devil, The Beguiled has been selected to compete for the Palme d'Or in the Official Selection at Cannes Film Festival next month.
As in Eastwood's version, The Beguiled presents us with an injured Union soldier (Farrell) during the American Civil War who is taken in by a group of women living in a remote seminary for young southern belles.
Nicole Kidman is thoroughly unimpressed with the charms of Colin Farrell in Focus Features' chilling first trailer for Sofia Coppola's Civil War-era drama "The Beguiled", Variety said. Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies) plays the head of the house with Kirsten Dunst (Fargo), Elle Fanning (The Neon Demon), Oona Laurence (Pete's Dragon) and Angourie Rice (The Nice Guys) amongst those playing the girls.
Speaking at CinemaCon earlier in the year, Sofia called the film "intriguing, sexy, fun and dark" and admitted that "it takes a dark turn you wouldn't expect".
The Beguiled absolutely haunted me as a youth, and hopefully Coppola effectively captures the unsettling atmosphere (and eventual horror) that made the original a memorable experience.
The house is taken over with sexual tension and risky rivalries, causing them to turn on each other and eventually on him.
Irish release date is June 23, 2017.
