Wizards pull away late from Hawks, go up 2-0
Washington preened at every opportunity - not many between a seemingly unending cascade of foul calls - in a 109-101 Game 2 victory over the Hawks on Wednesday.
"When they got it going, they're hitting tough shots in the first half, some you've just got to live with, we played great defense", Curry said. Watch Atlanta Hawks vs Washington Wizards Game 2 postseason by using the guide which given below.
Wall's 32 points was a career playoff-high for him. He redefined the game in those 12 minutes when he scored 15 of his postseason-career-high 32 points, provided four assists and even collected three rebounds.
Just like in Game 1, Washington was able to get out to an early lead in this one, using a 14-0 run to take a 16-6 lead midway through the first quarter. Win, and they can head to Atlanta this weekend with a firm grip on this series, with a chance to return to the Conference semifinals for the first time since 2015, when they lost to the Hawks. Conscious that he couldn't do it all himself, Wall embraced the role as defensive stopper and facilitator on Sunday. I'll happily take the Wizards to pull away late and take a 2-0 series lead going to Atlanta. If any team had a four man who could score, we could go right back to [Morris] and he could score in the post.
Bradley Beal had 22 points for the Wizards, who got enough from their top players to offset 25 points from Atlanta's Dennis Schroder and 19 from Paul Millsap.
After Washington won the series opener over the weekend, Millsap bemoaned aloud about how things went, saying: "The difference in the game is we were playing basketball and they were playing MMA".
The victor of the Wizards and Hawks series is scheduled to play the victor of the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls series.
Morris says the Wizards will only intensify their physical play. "Usually the aggressor is rewarded".
HAWKS: Schroder shot 8 of 16 and didn't appear to be hampered by a sprained foot that coach Mike Budenholzer didn't expect to cause him any limitations. By that time, it was very clear that the Wizards need to improve their second unit if they are serious about this season, so they acquired backcourt duo of Brandon Jennings and Bojan Bogdanovic.
All five Wizards starters scored double digits in points as power forward Markieff Morris scored 21 points with seven rebounds, center Marcin Gortat had a double-double of 14 points with 10 rebounds and small forward Otto Porter Jr. scored 10 points with nine rebounds.
Wall helped create (scored or assisted on) 62 of the Wizards' 114 points.
The crowd was also amped, chanting M-V-P at Wall during multiple occasions.
"I play with a lot of energy, a lot of intensity", Wall said. To jump over an National Basketball Association bench and land it and not get hurt is- I would have crashed into everybody. Kent Bazemore showed explosiveness off the bench and rookie Taureen Prince had 14 points in his playoff debut starting at small forward.
Millsap said it "just two guys playing hard - just two guys playing hard". This series, which will put him up against John Wall on both ends, will be something of a baptism by playoff fire for the young guard. Paul Millsap got his, scoring 19 with 9 points coming from the charity stripe.
"This is my house", Wall said then and later.
