A United States defence official also clarified that the strikes conducted by the nation were not meant to damage runways or fully disable the Syria base.
The official said that the United States hadn't been able to determine whether Syria or Russian Federation was operating the drone, but confirmed on Monday it was Russian Federation.
That chemical attack left at least 70 civilians dead, including women and children. Washington has blamed Bashar al-Assad's government for the attack, but the accusation has been denied by the Syrian as well as the Russian authorities.
The comments represented a departure from what she had said before the U.S. attacked a Syrian air base with 59 Tomahawk missiles on Thursday.
