Adidas sorry for email saying 'you survived' Boston Marathon

Adidas had a tweet pinned on Wednesday morning with a message that began with "We are incredibly sorry".

After a couple of hours, Adidas took to Twitter to apologize. The Boston Marathon has only retired one other number in its history: 61, for 61 races begun by athlete Johnny Kelly.

'Every year we're reminded of the hope and resiliency of the running community at this event'. Back in 1979, Faion ran the Boston marathon on the day he turned 19.

A couple of brands have involved in controversies recently besides Adidas' Boston Marathon email.

Many customers reacted angrily on social media by highlighting the poor choice of words.

This time, Switzer runs with over 12,300 women, including members of an organisation called 261 Fearless Boston Marathon Team, which she initiates to empower women after the 1967 event.

At least two survivors of the 2013 attack participated in this year's event, the oldest annual marathon in the world.

"Adidas is going to have to fire whoever was in charge of writing this e-mail", one person wrote on Twitter.

Geoffrey Kirui won the 121st edition of the men's race on Monday, and Edna Kiplagat won the women's division to complete the first Kenyan sweep in five years. "We can make it happen through running".
