Tip-in by Ryan lifts Senators over Bruins 4-3 in overtime

Bobby Ryan tipped home a pass from Kyle Turris for a power-play goal 5:43 into overtime, giving the Ottawa Senators a 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins on Monday night and a 2-1 lead in the first-round Eastern Conference playoff series. Bobby Ryan scored the OT victor on the power play, and he probably shouldn't have been on the ice, and definitely shouldn't have had the man advantage. "We'll take it a day at a time I guess". Hoffman's blast from the point by Rask, his second of the game, should have put the Senators in total control of this night. When Chris Wideman's shot from the point slipped under his glove in the third period, Rask seemed to lose his composure.

Towards the end of the third period, it was apparent that the Ottawa defense was exhausted from chasing the B's around their own zone.

Just 42 seconds later, Backes brought the Bruins within one on a strong individual effort, during which he forced a turnover and battled through Ryan, before breaking in all alone on Craig Anderson.

"Well I think a lot of character shown by us", Backes said of the comeback. Both of these games have been single goal finals, the Bruins won 2-1 in the opener before Ottawa earned the must-win in overtime on Saturday night. All three games so far have been decided in overtime. "And then [Monday night] I thought they did". Obviously, that's every team's objective and it's easier said than done, but the Sens have weapons at their disposal they could use as decoys (a la Game 2) to free up some space for their teammates.

Game 4 is Wednesday night. Braden Holtby made 48 saves for top-seed Washington, which is feeling the heat with Game 3 Monday in Toronto.

The fans were already in fine form before the teams hit the ice, whooping it up when the maniacal laugh of Ozzy Osbourne erupted from the PA system, signalling the start of heavy metal anthem Crazy Train.

Chara was on the ice for a season-high 30 minutes and 9 seconds in Saturday's Game 2 setback and has seen nearly 56 minutes of ice time in the first two games. Hoffman controlled the puck and easily tapped it by Rask into the right corner of the net.

The Senators have wrested back home-ice advantage, and the forgotten first-round matchup in the East has proven to be one of the closest, the most exciting, and now, the most controversial and bad-blooded series. "When it's 3-3 after the second period, it's a great opportunity for everybody". Robbie Ross Jr. got two outs with the bases loaded in the 7th and the Sox leading 4-2, thanks to a two-run single by Andrew Benintendi before handing the ball over to rookie Ben Taylor, who gave up a run scoring single to Steven Souza but nothing else.

Noel Acciari, in his first playoff game, got the ball rolling with a tip of John-Michael Liles' shot that went through Anderson's pads at 6:05. Hoffman scored his second of the game on a power play early in the third, and it looked like the Senators were home and cooled. The Bruins, meanwhile, managed just three shots in the first period and were in a deep search for answers as they headed back to the dressing room.

Ottawa scored twice in a span of 2:20 to tie the game.

And the Bruins were not done yet.

The three goals were scored on just seven shots in the period, the Bruins with just 10 through two.
