Biggie Smalls was killed after attending the 1997 Soul Train awards afterparty in Los Angeles, California. Four bullets hit him and he was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but doctors were unable to save him.

Diddy was one of many people who paid tribute to Biggie on the 20th anniversary of his death, encouraging fans to post videos of themselves rapping their favorite Biggie lyrics with the hashtag #WeMissYouBIG, according to USA Today.

The Notorious B.I.G. died on March 9, 1997 - that's 20 years ago on Thursday. We're celebrating his life through his music and through his legacy today.

"Every year, whether I'm in the club or just on the radio, I make sure to pay tribute to him by playing his music", DJ Lonnie B said.

The star released his debut album, Ready to Die, in 1994 - and soon became a central figure on the East Coast hip hop scene.

Sojourn restaurant will be dedicating a wall to The Notorious B.I.G., as he was also referred to, where fans can leave notes in his memory.

The "Hypnotize" rapper, nicknamed Biggie Smalls, was murdered just six months after rapper Tupac Shakur lost his life in a fatal drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. His murder is still unsolved, with a TV drama spotlighting the crime now in the works. The project will be directed by the Malloys (Emmett Malloy and Brendan Malloy) and made in collaboration with Notorious B.I.G.'s estate and his mother Voletta Wallace.

On social media, Evans was heavily promoting her upcoming album, "The King & I", which features duets by her and Biggie.
