Google Pixel: What if a low price version really saw the day?
At the roundtable discussion during the Mobile World Congress, Google's senior vice president of hardware - Rick Osterloh confirmed that the company is certainly working on the successor.
Google embarked on an ideology previous year after it made a decision to ditch the Nexus lineup and instead let Pixel become the torchbearer. The company kept the price o the higher side to pitch their flagships against the Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Just last week Google started rolling out its voice-activated aide to all Android phones running Marshmallow and Nougat, and now it's showing off a new trick that will make it much more useful: integration with our messages.
He further added,"there is an annual rhythm in the industry". Like every other rumour, we advise you to take this story with a pinch of salt.
The upcoming Google Pixel handset, on the other hand, is said to be waterproof, and features an improved camera. 9to5Google reports that the feature works on the latest beta version of the Google app (6.14) but should also work on the latest 6.13 stable.
One of the biggest criticisms levelled at the original Pixel phone was its high price, as the device still now costs on sale for an eye-watering £529. There will indeed be a Google Pixel 2, and it will be released at some point later this year. Google intends to keep the Pixel at a premium price, so we might not expect anything cheap coming from this tech giant. This is when the Google Pixel 2 will also be given a sneak peek of. Google says that there will be two security patches this month, one for March 1 and one for March 5, to give its partners the flexibility to quickly patch a set of vulnerabilities that are similar across all Android devices. If you own one of those devices, you can go ahead and download the factory images and OTA files right now directly from Google.
This does not mean that the Pixel 2 would not be a device worthy of purchase, however.
In addition to this, the report also states that a prototype Pixel 2B is under development which could be released either together or after the Pixel 2 has been launched.
