Wife of University Park fire captain arrested following husband's shooting death

The wife of a University Park fire captain was jailed on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder after he was found fatally shot late Friday night near Royse City.

Bob Poynter was found dead in his auto along the road around 11 p.m. Friday after witnesses reported seeing a woman trying to get the attention of drivers.

Chacey Tyler Poynter of Royse City was booked into the Rockwall County Jail Saturday.

When they arrived, police say 29-year-old Chacey Poynter told them her husband had been shot in his truck. Officers later found the body of Robert Poynter.

The wife of a University Park fire captain was arrested after her husband was discovered dead Friday evening from a gunshot wound.

Officers reported the woman gave "suspicious and conflicting information" related to the incident, WFAA reported.

Police made another arrest after investigators believed there was a third-party subject involved in the fire captain's death.

Robert Poynter began working for University Park in 1997. A firefighter/paramedic, he was promoted to Lieutenant in April, 2002 and became a Captain in May, 2012. "Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the family at this hard time".

A neighbor told Fox 4 that the Poynters had just returned from a vacation to Mexico.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Hunt County Sheriff's Office, the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety, responded to the scene to assist.
